Jamie Cundy, PGA Fellow Golf Professional and Golf Manager at Calderfields Golf & Country Club is the first ever person to complete and pass the new ASQ Level 5 Golf Management Qualification in conjunction with the PGA, GCMA and BIGGA.

“It was a mammoth task” said Jamie with 178,000 words in total and over 1,000 hours spent working on it over the past 12 months.

“I am very proud to be the first ever to pass this qualification and also being a member of the PGA who is the first to complete and pass which will sit alongside my PGA Director of Golf Qualification”.

This is a professional, flexible and accessible qualification, available to those working in golf clubs and management positions in relevant industries, which will add value to a manager’s career and their golf club business.

The launch of this qualification is a huge step forward in the Association’s objective to professionalise the golf club management industry. The Diploma and its associated certificates will offer golf club managers a way to gain formal recognition for their extensive skills, and offer a clear route into the industry for prospective managers. For the first time, managers have the option to undertake a golf specific qualification to enhance their role at the heart of the golf club.

The units have been developed by, and based on SFEDI business and enterprise National Occupational Standards and are detailed below:

  •         Leading and Managing People in a Golf Club
  •         Managing Change in a Golf Club
  •         Managing The Operations of a Golf Club

Gaudet Luce Golf Club

Gaudet Luce – Major host

This is a modern golf and leisure complex that doesn’t like to sit still and the steady growth in popularity of the club since its opening in 1995 has enabled the family ownership to put investment back into the course and facilities.

125 years – South Staffs GC

The South Staffordshire Club is always a special visit. Nestled in the leafy suburbs of Wolverhampton, a traditional members club with a much admired parkland course that never fails to impress. Messrs Vardon, Colt, Braid and more recently Donald Steel have all played their parts in creating a layout that charms, teases and yields a low score very reluctantly.
