The chance to catch up with friends over a game of golf. To share a meal, analyzing how it all came undone on the back nine. These golfing normalities have seemed like a distant dream.

But this July, Education For The Children, the Nottingham based charity who supports the education, nutrition and social care of hundreds of students in Guatemala, is delighted to be putting their Annual Golf Day firmly back on the calendar.

Restrictions allowing, the Four Ball competition will be held on Thursday 8 July, teams will gather at The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club for coffee and breakfast rolls followed by 18 holes on the sublime Championship course. A prize giving two-course dinner will follow the day’s action, where participants will also be able to take part in an auction and a raffle with money can’t buy travel and hospitality prizes.

Fundraising during lockdown has been tough, but the charity’s creative thinking used technology to link supporters all around the globe with each other and the team in Guatemala. But Fundraising Manager, Mahalia Carroll is delighted to be able to step away from the screen as EFTC restarts in-person events:

“Our supporters have shown unwavering commitment throughout the pandemic, so we’re delighted to be able to come together in-person for the first time since 2019. Funding is tough right now and every penny raised at EFTC’s Golf Day will go directly to funding students’ needs both in the classroom and supporting their learning and social development at home. Guatemala has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and presently it is extremely difficult for our families to access employment and healthcare.  Getting back to our events programme is one way that we are striving to address that balance.”

Entry fee per team of four is £500. The event will be a rolling tee time midday start with registration and breakfast rolls from 10.30am.  In the event of changing restrictions full refunds will be available. To register a team please email Boo Somers on events@eftc.org.uk
