Parents Ben and Hayley Peter decided to set up the Elexis Brown Golf Foundation in October 2021 in memory of Elexis who passed away unexpectedly in August 2021. Aided by trustees Phil Grimwood and Andrew Myers, we started to raise funds to help children get in to golf.
On the 12th of April we hosted our 1st charity golf in aid of the Elexis Brown Golf Foundation.
Stonebridge Golf Club very kindly agreed to accommodate us, working alongside the owner of Midlands Golfer Magazine Ian Nicholson and the lady editor Mandy Ambert.
We were lucky enough to have Advanced PGA Professional Hannah Bowen from South Wales who had kindly travelled up to be involved in the ‘Beat the Pro Challenge.’
Leicester businessman Saft Islam, owner of the fine dining Indian restaurant Chutney Ivy kindly gave refreshments and snacks to the players on the 8th hole of the Somers course.
24 teams and 96 competitors took part, and we would like to thank every single person who contributed to the charity day and helped to raise the sum of £5,770 for the foundation and also to the donators of the auction and raffle prizes
Hannah Bowen and Liam Harrison from Golf Mates helped with the auction with good spirit, and everybody enjoyed this to conclude the day.
Elexis never forgot her golf roots and always believed that all young people, irrespective of race, gender, disability, religion, poverty or personal circumstances, should have the opportunity to enjoy golf and play to the best of their ability.
She worked extra hard to achieve what she did in such a fleeting time – in 13 years playing off a handicap of 8.5 and becoming a Lincolnshire County golfer.
About the Elexis Brown Foundation
This charity will offer 4 children over a one-year period with free coaching with a PGA professional and also to pay a 1-year subscription to a golf club in their local area. Each recipient, irrespective of personal circumstances or financially challenged background, will have the opportunity to learn golf and who knows, maybe become a county player like Elexis.
Elexis was a huge fan of the Golf Foundation run by England Golf and always believed in what they represented and what they could achieve.
The Elexis Brown foundation is able to offer the opportunity to work with juniors and give them a chance to grow, not just in golf but also with life skills to take with them as they develop and improve. Elexis was lucky enough to also be a Girls Golf Rocks Ambassador in 2019 and we want others to have the same chance.
