The Gateway to Wales Golf Pass features a cluster of six North Wales border clubs offering golfers the chance to buy a ticket to play all six of them all at discounted green fee rates. Details of the participating clubs are listed below this article.

Yet there’s much more to them than that. The company also organise a trio of 54 hole open events at the clubs each year in spring, summer and autumn, which have become popular for many golfers from our region to compete in. Here’s a report from the most recent one…..

Gateway to Wales Golf held their fourth Spring Golf Festival over the Platinum Jubilee weekend. Taking full advantage of the four day break to host a record field of over 200 golfers all of whom were determined to enjoy their staycation golf break. A strong contingent from Midlands golf clubs was present to enjoy the golf and the stunning surroundings.

The event was held at Northop, Hawarden and Holywell Golf Clubs and sponsored by the Springfield Hotel & Restaurant, Holywell. This event is becoming a regular event for golfers from all over the United Kingdom, many booking from one festival to the next.

This festival enjoys the full support of Flintshire County Council Leisure & Tourism. Richard L Jones speaking on their behalf praised Gateway to Wales Golf for their efforts in bringing so many visitors to Flintshire, “We are delighted to learn that 95% of those attending travel from outside of the county and stay in local accommodation providing a much appreciated boost to local businesses.”

Festival organiser Tony Godden, Director & Club Secretary of Northop Golf Club worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure the success of the festival. He expressed his thanks to all the members of the participating clubs who ensured there was a warm welcome to Flintshire for all competitors. Although the weather was disappointingly wet on the final day, it didn’t prevent some extremely high scoring.

The three day event aggregate prize of £150 and the winners of the Gateway to Wales Spring Golf Festival 4BBB Champions 2022 were Chris Wojcik of Gathurst GC, Wigan & Martin Ackers of Chorley GC with 129 points.
