Midlands College of Golf student Jack Severn (Cleobury Mortimer GC) recently returned from the Junior European Open in high spirits following his fourth place finish at the Alcaidesa Links Resort. Jack qualified for the event during the summer that saw him compete against a high calibre field of juniors from across the regional qualifying events.

Jack shot up to second place after a five under round on day one and was able to make the final group on the last day of the event in third place. He briefly led the competition after three holes of the final round thanks to his dream birdie-birdie-eagle start, eventually ending in fourth place overall.

Jack said; “It was an amazing experience to compete in such a well organized event against a very competitive field.  I have already qualified for two National Finals in the College Tours and have St Andrews and Trevose in my schedule for next summer, this experience will certainly help me when at those events too.”

Jack is now working back with the rest of the Midlands College of Golf Team and despite missing the final round of the British Schools and Colleges Tour while he was away, he has qualified for their National Final to be held at Trevose in May. His programme that runs in collaboration with Stourbridge College sees Jack take part in a full time golf coaching and competition calendar alongside education providing a pathway to careers in golf and sport.

More information about the Midlands College of Golf programme can be found on their website www.midlandscollegeofgolf.co.uk . On the website students can also apply online for a place at the Stourbridge College or Sutton Coldfield College campusses.

The next Open event will be held at each site on Saturday January 13th 10:00-13:00.

Gaudet Luce Golf Club

Gaudet Luce – Major host

This is a modern golf and leisure complex that doesn’t like to sit still and the steady growth in popularity of the club since its opening in 1995 has enabled the family ownership to put investment back into the course and facilities.

125 years – South Staffs GC

The South Staffordshire Club is always a special visit. Nestled in the leafy suburbs of Wolverhampton, a traditional members club with a much admired parkland course that never fails to impress. Messrs Vardon, Colt, Braid and more recently Donald Steel have all played their parts in creating a layout that charms, teases and yields a low score very reluctantly.
