Two talented young ladies made it back from the USA universities and have already made a major impression at their home club in south Shropshire.
One of our new lady members Sophie Caldon birdied five holes, parred eight more and didn’t score any higher than a five on the remaining holes to shoot a gross 71 off a 4 handicap to become the well deserved winner of the Margaret Dale Trophy on June 30th.
Sophie is in her third year as a junior at High Point University in North Carolina. She’s studying International Business with French and has been on the Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s list in her first two years. She’s been really enjoying playing golf here at Ludlow since returning to the UK ahead of schedule due to the Coronavirus lockdown. With all of the new travel restrictions to the USA it looks like she’ll be spending a lot more time back home for the foreseeable future.
Emily Price, a member here for a few years, is often to be seen out practicing when she’s back home in Ludlow from the USA.
On the same day Emily birdied seven holes, parred another nine of them and the only blemishes were two bogey fives on her card! Put those together and you get a truly awesome GROSS 66 which Emily shot in the Margaret Dale Trophy and medal to set a new ladies course record for Ludlow.
With her + 4 handicap she finished with a nett 70 to take her into third position overall. Emily is also a third year Junior but at the Kent State University in Ohio. She was awarded the All American Freshman of the Year award with the best scoring average for freshmen and the highest freshman finish at SEC.
She has her sights set on joining the LPGA tour and is planning on going to Q school next year to get her card. With such natural talent and her drive and determination I think we’ll be hearing a lot more about Emily in the coming years! Emily will also be with us for most of this year so look out on the course for our two superstar golfers. They’re both very friendly, lovely young ladies and are a credit to our section and to Ludlow Golf Club.
