A crazily busy September saw 96 players converge on Gaudet Luce GC for Midlands Golfer’s annual Society Championship on the 10th, followed just a week later with a long overdue get together and overnight stay for the MGALS at Breadsall Priory.

We started our day with the obligatory Prosecco and Danish Pastries which just kept coming and coming, and so well ‘refreshed’, the teams set off and played the Championship Priory course. Our regulars, Leamington and County ladies, the Ladies Love Golf troop, the Staffordshire girls and a newby from Kenilworth, plus the odd husband or two set to the task of the AM-AM and after a welcome rest were ready to enjoy the Gala Dinner.

The winners were a team from Branston golf club, Chris Pettit the Staffordshire Vets County Captain, her husband Richard plus Nina and Andy Snelson with 86 stableford points.

2nd place was Jenny Cordon and Teresa Booth from Leek Birchall, Sue Simmons from Enville and  Jean Greenhalgh from Westwood, also with 86 points but beaten on countback.

3rd place was a team from Trentham GC , Jeff and Joan Carr, my husband Jean-Louis and Sandra Bickerton from Shifnal with 81 points.

Thanks go to Moseley GC, Ullesthorpe GC, Bridgestone Balls and Island Green for the prizes and the charity we supported for the day and indeed all year is Prostate Cancer.

My appreciation goes to Breadsall Priory for their seamless service, the pros, catering service, green-keepers and events team led by Bernadette Turner. It’s been a challenging time for all of us and I was so happy and relieved we were finally able to host the event.

Next year’s events are taking shape and we will host two mixed events in April and then in Sept or Oct 2022. Details soon.
