Redditch Golf Club donates over £12,000 to Acorns Children’s Hospice

Acorns Children’s Hospice is more than £12,000 better off due to the generosity of Redditch Golf Club members.

The Birmingham-based charity was selected by 2017 captains Kevin Creighton and Joy Mutton as their charity of the year.

Kevin and Joy met Natalia Solanki from Acorn Children’s Hospice at the Lower Grinsty Lane club to hand over a cheque for £12,154.06.

Joy Mutton, 2017 ladies captain, said: “It costs £7,000 a day to keep the doors open at the children’s hospice and we are so proud to be able to ‘pay for a day’ at the hospice with the amazing amount we raised over 2017.

“It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice during my year as Lady Captain of Redditch Golf Club.”

Throughout the year, members held numerous golf competitions, raffles and tombola.

Joy added: “A huge ‘thank you’ must be paid to all ladies section members, their families and friends for the tremendous donations and support they gave.”

Club captain Kevin Creighton said: “It was a great pleasure to host Acorns Children’s Hospice as our chosen charity during 2017.

“With all of the different sections pulling together in a tremendous effort for such a worthy cause, knowing we have made a difference will be a wonderful reward for everyone concerned.

“In fact, the charity has actually named a day this year ‘Redditch Golf Club Day’ in appreciation of our endeavours on their behalf,” he said.

Natalia Solanki, corporate and community fundraising manager for Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “Acorns Children’s Hospice is delighted to receive this amazing £12,000 donation raised so generously by Redditch Golf Club and its members.

“Every year Acorns supports 876 life limited or life threatened children and over 1,090 families across the region. Donations like this help us ensure that we can continue to provide this vital care as well as creating laughter, fun and magical memories for those who use our services,” she said.

Established 30 years ago this year, Acorns Children’s Hospice has three hospices in Selly Oak, Walsall and Worcester.

This is a modern golf and leisure complex that doesn’t like to sit still and the steady growth in popularity of the club since its opening in 1995 has enabled the family ownership to put investment back into the course and facilities.
