The Leicestershire Golf Club played host to the English Mid Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship – The Logan Trophy.  The 54 hole event, held from 4-7 July attracted a strong field of the best UK amateurs as well as players from Europe and the United States.

Club Captain Mike Bucktin said, “The Leicestershire Golf Club was proud and honoured to be awarded this event.  Our staff ensure that we members enjoy a superb course and clubhouse service throughout the year and it was very gratifying to know that we could meet the demands of staging a major amateur tournament both on and off the course”

Mike along with club president Clive Smith paid tribute to the staff of the club and warmly thanked general manager Will Bevan and his assistant Alice Marston for their organisational and communication skills in liaising with England Golf and bringing the whole event together.  Course manager Chris Lewis and his team ensured the course was at its best whilst clubhouse and catering managers Piotr Zuj and Simon McNeil saw that off-course facilities met the player’s needs.  Head professional Peter Livie and his assistant Kym Larratt oversaw the practice and other facilities that enabled the players to prepare for a tough test.

Mike also paid tribute to the many members of the club who volunteered for a wide variety of roles. He said, ” The whole club embraced this opportunity and came together to show the very best of what we offer.”  The reward was an excellent tournament with a very close finish. Geoff Harris made three birdies in the final nine holes to overhaul 2018 champion Nick Day and finish one shot ahead on five under par.

Mike concluded by saying, “Clive and I are delighted and proud with the way we rose to the challenge. It was a special time for the club and will be remembered for many years to come”
