A welcoming club and delightful heathland course set on the outskirts of the pretty Lincolnshire market town bordering the racecourse, situated 15 miles from Lincoln.

When you’re making the effort to visit a golf club for the first time, initial impressions are always a  key component and here, there’s no fear of anything other than the right feelings. You’re straight off the pegs with a simply lovely par four turning an early corner then showing you the way towards a stunning green site surrounded by a canopy of tall pines. You’ll soon discover that’s a true Market Rasen trait, many similar views are on the way, practically all of the putting surfaces here are beautifully framed by the natural heathland surroundings with well positioned traps on guard too.

The opening hole is a difficult one to test your long game early, but following that things ease a touch until you reach the turn. A succession of mid-to-short length two shotters come along, just separated by the par three on five. That one sits in the middle of an attractive triangle of holes, separated and narrowed in width by a similar shaped copse of tall pines, this is probably where the course is at its most tree lined.

Also look out for the large putting surface that the third and sixth hole share, not too many of those still present in the region.

2023 SOCIETY OFFER – FOR 10+ GOLFERS – 18 HOLES & 1 COURSE MEAL £42 PP – Quote MG23 on booking

From the super attractive eighth hole things open out a little, there’s extra length to bring the driver into play again, and the winding River Rase comes into play too, quite a few red stakes around.

Market Rasen has been around for over 110 years, yet in the 1990s course changes became necessary due to the local water authorities, and three new holes were constructed that now make up 11,12 and 13. The club proudly proclaim them as their very own ‘Amen Corner’, and they are certainly an eye-catching trio of challenges. In our experience if you didn’t know beforehand they were newer holes, you wouldn’t notice one bit when playing them, as seamless an addition as it gets.

Plenty of special moments to look forward to sampling on a consistently high-quality track that never relinquishes its very welcome hold on your golfing senses.

The conclusion to the round is impressive too, bordering the racecourse by the 15th green and 16th tee, then close by again for a gently leaning uphill par 3 18th which could be a nerve jangler if you’re in the latter tee times in your society group. The final green of your round could have something of a gallery watching on from the clubhouse patio!

MG Pick – 10th 401 yards Par 4 (Y)

A stunning par four where you have to cross the river twice, first from the tee which isn’t too difficult but then the part that criss-crosses the fairway which could be. The water isn’t really a factor from the tee, more of a case of setting up as comfortable a second shot as you can to cross it and climb the gentle bank to the well protected and sloping green. Another scenic delight and once again, the putting surface is beautifully framed by the tall trees.

19th hole

A large single floor clubhouse with attractive patio area overlooking the first tee and 18th green. The dining room space can be adapted to suit private society occasions.
