Marston Lakes Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield are pleased to announce that April 2026 marks the silver jubilee of the opening of their Lakes golf course.
The development of Lea Marston began in 1979 when John Blake, on behalf of Sapcote PLC purchased the old semi derelict Kingsbury 10 bay driving range and associate wooden hut acting as the shop/bar.
Over many development phases, a new floodlit 27 bay range, changing rooms, a bowling green, (now additional car parking) a pro shop, par 3 academy course and in 2001 the nine-hole Lakes course were all created.
Alongside these sporting facilities a new hotel was built and extended to include 119 bedrooms bars, restaurants and spa/health club with pool and gym.
Regardless of its modest length of 4046 yards for 18 holes, the Lakes course should not be underestimated. As the name suggests, nine lakes were constructed and come into play on seven of the nine holes. They sit alongside 25 strategically placed bunkers with greens laid to USGA standard. It’s a course that provides the ideal challenge for golfers of all ages and abilities.
Whilst the course is open to the public, we welcome new members to join our friendly club with sections for juniors, ladies, men’s and seniors hosting a variety of competitions and social golf. Through the generosity of the members significant contributions are donated each year to numerous local charities.
The 2026 celebrations officially teed off with the Jubilee Celebration Day in April (top picture) This marquee event featured an all-sections 18-hole scramble, followed by a post-match jubilee launch and raffle. The summer months will see a competitive “Silver Salver” series, including dedicated tournaments for all sections of the golf club.
Beyond the golf course, the club will host a number of family-focused events such as a Quiz Night in May, a family BBQ in June, and a Ladies’ Afternoon Tea in July. The celebrations will culminate in October, with an Invitational Jubilee 18-hole Scramble and ceremony for past members and captains of all sections.
“Our goal for this landmark year is to acknowledge everyone who helped establish this club while providing every member an opportunity to participate and get involved. As well as looking forward to the next 25 years,” the planning committee stated.
