Important dates for your 2027 diaries
The MGALS (Midlands Golfer Amateur Ladies Society) are back and already looking forward to the 2027 golfing season with this brand new two-day event to promote.
The society, ran by Midlands Golfer lady editor Mandy Ambert began life in 2017 as a ladies own group. During the years since, the successful growth in member numbers and the great times they’ve enjoyed golfing and socialising across the Midlands has attracted envious looks from their husbands/male golfing partners. So much so that the MGALS is now just as much a mixed society as it is ladies.
Here are the details of our first MGALS event of 2027 – a mouth-watering two-day 36 hole event with an optional stop over and, as always, with all of the traditional MGALS trimmings thrown in.
We’ve named the event ‘Double Baileys’ as it refers to Baileys Bar & Restaurant, Buxton, Derbyshire. Baileys also run the catering franchaises at both Chapel-en-le-Frith and Leek Golf Clubs. In a non-coincidental way – they are the two golf clubs who will host our event, hence the name.

The dates for your diaries are Friday June 11th 2027 and Saturday the 12th.
Round one on Friday 11th will be at Leek (Birchall) Golf Club, featuring coffee/tea/bacon rolls on arrival – 18 holes of golf and a two-course meal to conclude. The following day we move a few miles north for round two at Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club in the High Peak region of Derbyshire, coffee on arrival – a further 18 holes and sandwiches and fries to finish along with our two-day prize presentation.
Golfers of all abilities are welcomed along, the MGALS events specialise in fun and socialising (and large gins!) as much as anything else. As Mandy always says, golfing ability isn’t the main thing – having a good time most certainly is.

ABOUT THE VENUES
Leek Golf Club is situated in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands on the A520 and is one of Staffordshire’s best known golf courses.
For over a century, players have enjoyed the course and they continually endeavour to meet the demands of the modern golfer. Offering year-round golf on a course with tree lined fairways, undulating greens and fantastic views. The elevated tee on Leek’s 14th hole offers some of the finest views in Staffordshire golf.
Situated in the heart of the High Peak region of Derbyshire and founded in 1905, Chapel-en-le-Frith was a challenging 9 hole course until the early 1970’s when legendary golf architects, Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, combined to produce the design for a further 9 holes. With the later acquisition of even more land enabling the original nine holes to be revamped, the resulting 18 hole par 72 course is a real hidden gem. The course is surprisingly flat, being situated in the bottom of the valley with stunning views of the surrounding Peak District hills from every hole.
