Midlands Golfer magazine has changed hands this summer and is now under new ownership with a familiar face taking over.

Current editor Phil, who started producing Midlands golf magazines back in 2009 under different titles, before founding Midlands Golfer in 2012 has now written and edited well over 100 issues, 104 of them as MG.

In July this year Phil took over the title from previous owner Ian Nicholson of Midlands Golf retail who has stepped back in order to focus on his other businesses.

The magazine and the digital side of MG will remain pretty much the same under the new ownership. We will continue to bring out printed issues every two months and will concentrate even further on supporting the region’s many golf clubs and golfers.

We will continue our Society Concierge service which has been hugely successful in linking our affiliated local societies with the golf clubs, securing the groups the best possible deals as well as bringing our advertising clubs some vital extra business.

Readers who are familiar with the magazine know we are a two-person band and will carry on being so as Phil will be ably supported as he has been since 2015 by Lady Editor Mandy. A vastly experienced Staffordshire County golfer and VET, Mandy looks after our important ladies and junior sections in the magazine and is also the MG events organiser.

Mandy also endured the trauma of a life-saving Liver Transplant two and a half years ago and has put her experience and gratitude to good use by forming The Mulligans Golf Society. The members are all organ transplant recipients and organ donors and hold events arranged by Mandy and supported by MG to raise funds and awareness.

Throughout Phil’s editor history at MG from issue 1 to what is currently no 105 we have been fortunate to have a great artwork designer on board. Chris, a non-golfer in the main was reluctant to begin with but now sees designing MG as the favourite part of his many roles. A shadowy figure who’s not fond of the spotlight, his talents have contributed hugely to our success, we are lucky to have him.

Mandy and Phil try to get to as many Midlands clubs as they can delivering the latest issues every two months. with over 300 to get to, that’s not an easy task. But the task is made a lot easier thanks to the help of three chaps, Jean-Louis (Mandy’s husband), Mark and Tony our MG ambassadors

We’d like to finish by thanking Ian for making the transfer of the magazine such a easy process and for his stewardship from 2021 to this summer. Taking over as he did just after COVID wasn’t the easiest time to revive a printed magazine but we managed it and couldn’t have done that without his patience and help.

Next issue is due out during the first week of September, get in touch with us if we can get you involved with us in that one.
