Rothley Park’s junior golfers were recently treated to an opportunity to learn from two of the best amateur golfers in England, Steve Sansome and Scott Wormleighton.

Both are members of Rothley Park in Leicestershire. Steve is currently ranked number three in the English amateur senior rankings and for the second year running he has played in the English Senior team in the Senior Home Internationals and European Team Championships.  He also won the Welsh Senior title this year.

Scott recently won the Gerald Micklem Trophy which is one of the most prestigious mid-amateur competitions in England having won the English mid -amateur (35 years and over) last year.  Scott won the Rock at Charnwood and was also one of the Leicestershire and Rutland team which won the English County Championship last month.

Rothley Park Junior Captain, Sam Leake, said it was a wonderful opportunity for the junior members:  “Steve and Scott talked us through mechanical principles of different shots on a golf course such as using bounce on a bunker shot and angle of attack on iron and wedge shots and not forgetting the important mental aspects such as thought processes and pre- shot routines.

Both players provided a masterclass in performance, hitting almost every target they aimed for!  After watching Steve and Scott in action, the juniors had the opportunity to hit balls on the practice ground and ask any questions.”

Rothley Park has a very active junior section, currently with 134 members ranging from 6-18 years old.  In addition to the sport, exercise and fresh air, golf is a great way for juniors to meet like-minded youngsters and gain valuable social skills both on and off the course.
