As we all know, one of the very best things about golf is that it’s one of the most accessible sports in the world when it comes to being able to experience exactly what our heroes do. It may cost a few bob but we are welcomed to play every course just as they do (if maybe from slightly shorter length tees)
Toptracer is another example – the ground breaking technology that first came to our TV screens at the beginning of the decade, showing ball flight in golf tournaments has developed into something we can all enjoy using, taking over our driving ranges at a rapid rate and re-inventing the way we can practice golf and improve. Yet even more importantly, we can enjoy ourselves even more doing it and also encourage new players into the game.
There are rumours of many more on the horizon but the Midlands currently has eight Toptracer driving ranges open for business – we feature two here, and then brief details of the other six.
Ultimate Golf Centre Walsall was an early adopter of Toptracer and thoroughly champions the benefits of the system to our golfer’s games.
Here at Ultimate Golf Centre we have included Toptracer on every bay at NO EXTRA COST to our golfers. We have also invested in Toptracer demonstrations with a member of our staff circulating the range throughout the day and night to demonstrate and explain the benefits of each challenge, programme or even competition. Whether it’s the inbuilt gapping or playing 18 holes at St Andrews from the comfort of the range on a cold December night, our golfers thoroughly appreciate the facilities we offer.
We also run weekly competitions where golfers compete against each other. The longest drive and nearest the pin challenges really bring out their competitive side. Our golfers particularly enjoy out doing each other on the challenges and seeing their name up in lights around the facility.
We really understand the Toptracer system and in order for the technology to be a success at any range this knowledge needs to be shared with the customers. Once a customer knows how to work Toptracer they will return week after week for practice.

Leicester Golf Centre – The Toptracer range at Leicester Golf Centre has only been open a year but has already been named as one of the Best 3 Ranges in the UK today. Opened by award winning coach and Advanced Fellow of the PGA Anders Mankert, it boasts a brand new state of the art driving range with 16 bays all of which have Toptracer fitted. Unlike many Toptracer facilities there is no charge to use it at Leicester Golf Centre and balls are priced very reasonably at £7.95 for a basket of 100.
The friendly atmosphere here is felt as soon as you enter The Greenhouse coffee shop with friendly staff on hand to show any Toptracer virgins just how easy it is to use. They even have table service of draft San Miguel and other beers or small bottles of Prosecco for the ladies! It’s all a part of a very new way of doing things in the game as Anders explains “I wanted to build a facility where I would like to go. I wanted it totally open to everyone with service at its heart and where golfers and non golfers would feel equally comfortable in having a go. Looking at how busy we are with such a mix of customers from people on dates through to die hard golfers wanting to win our monthly longest drive or nearest the pin prizes, I’d say we’ve succeeded so far! This really is the future of golf and has attracted a completely new audience who are key to the industry….youth!”
