The golfers of Boldmere Golf Club celebrated their 70th pro-am platinum anniversary of playing for the “Stan Jackson Trophy” on Sunday August 20th.

Boldmere is in a wonderful scenic urban environment in Sutton Coldfield Park and is home to both the golf club & the Boldmere ‘Shaggy Dogs’ club (pictured below) of senior members who all support each other.

We are very proud of the historic event, which we believe was possibly first organised to celebrate when Queen Elizabeth 11 succeeded to the Throne in 1952.

From Wikipedia, “Boldmere Golf Club hosts Europe’s longest-running Pro-Am golfing competition, professionals joining the competition since it began in 1952.”

This is the 70th occasion it’s been held, the only break, due to the COVID restrictions was in 2020.

Captains Report: Where do I start? It must be with a massive thank you to all those that took part in the competition, the professionals and you the amateurs making up the 14 teams, 56 players in all. I hope you all agree what a fantastic day we had, weather great, company even better, course excellent, buffet plentiful, team and hole prizes galore.  A big special thank you to our main sponsors Skirting Board Direct, who every year help make this event so special and memorable.

Congratulations go to the winning team pictured with their winner’s keepsakes and the “Stan Jackson Trophy.”

Left to right: Mario Leone, Rob Killarney (Pro), Chris Haycock & Paul Bell with a nett 101 (25 under). Worth noting that Paul was Club Captain Twice and has now played in the 50th, 60th & 70th Pro-Am anniversaries.

Congratulations to Matthew Fieldsend on winning the individual professional trophy with a nett 61 (2 under) – very well played, and to all the pros who took part to help make it a special day for us amateurs.

Due to the generosity of different people having a go on the raffle and entering the putting competition, we raised a combined total of £760.00 on the day. Brilliant support from everyone, helping to raise money for the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.

John Gibbons – Proud to be Boldmere Club Captain 2023.
