Home comforts – Walmley ladies win the Warwickshire Net Championships
On Monday 4th September the club was privileged to host the 2023 Warwickshire Ladies Inter Club Championships. On a beautiful September day, 20 Teams and 105 ladies took on the challenge of trying to win the competition. There was nothing but praise from players about the fantastic course and clubhouse. A great PR day.
Walmley have won the trophy twice before in 1981 and 1983 and were runners-up by just one-point last year at Coventry Finham.
However, this year the Ladies went one better and became the net champions again, the team are pictured here with the Daisy Hartill Memorial Cup.

Congratulations also goes to Deb Reynolds who played a fantastic round ending with a Net 73, the lowest score out of all 105 players. She was pipped on the Gross by just one point.

RUGBY LADIES ON A ROLL!
What a week for the Rugby Golf Club ladies. On Saturday September 23rd they won their first county competition – the Warwickshire Foursomes final against Olton. Having been the runners up to Harborne last year we were determined to go one better. Wins against Coventry, Shirley, Copt Heath and Nuneaton secured a place in the final at Maxstoke Park against Olton.
Sue Jones and Deb Harrad halved the first match and had an anxious wait to find out that Judith Pegler and Sam Price had also halved; having to win 18 to send themselves (as the designated pair) down extra holes!
The sudden death play-off ended at the second extra hole with Rugby winning a very close match. A shout out also to Kerri Crossley who played in the quarter final.
Two days after the foursomes, they went on to win the Warwickshire League Final at Sutton Coldfield against Whitefields by 3 matches to 2 in a tough battle. Rugby had a great campaign, only losing 1 ½ games in the five match round robin stage. They came through the semi- final at Kenilworth against Edgbaston 5-0. After the previous five times of being runners up it was a relief to finally get our hands on the winner’s trophy. Congratulations to the squad of Judith Pegler, Sam Price, Sue Jones, Caroline Brown, Kerri Crossley, Claire Hughes, Deb Harrad and Sue Tura.
Just like buses, no county trophies and then two come along at once! An absolutely fantastic team effort and achievement; I am so proud of Rugby Golf Club’s ladies in my captain’s year.
