Congratulations to the gentlemen in pink!

One of our most valued and supportive to the magazine local societies celebrate their quarter of a century this year. Always in pink and always playing with a smile, Ges Tierney, one of their founding members relates the STAGS tale.

As this is our 25th year Anniversary, we have new (still pink though) shirts, with our 25th Anniversary printed on them. The top image was taken this Bank Holiday Monday just gone at our day out over at Bromsgrove GC.

We have always been a quite an “elderly” society. When we first started, at least 75% of members were in their 60s, 70s and even 80s. As one of the “youngsters” at the beginning, I am now one of the “elders” being the ripe old age of 67. I am also now the society Chairman. We are still mainly an “elderly” society with our percentage of over 60s, probably now even higher at around 85%.

We do struggle to achieve the numbers on a day out that we always used to have in the early days, I don’t know if this is caused by rising costs, or members being busier with growing families and not able to commit to every outing.

Also as a bunch of “Old Boys”, we do struggle to attract younger members to our society, but we have had a few join in the last two years so we hope that’s a trend that will continue in the coming years.

All in all it has been a great 25 years, with the focus of all our outings, weekend aways and foreign trips being focused on fun and camaraderie, with the odd little competitive nature showing its head now and then. We are still very much, “a friendly, fun society”.

We also still try and do our bit, for whatever charities we can help.
