Having covered practically every blade of grass on the Cromwell course during many years of competing with us at our Matchplay Masters at Nailcote Hall, Abbey Hotel members Nigel Whitaker and Mark Young finally got their hands on the title.

On June 4th in brilliant sunshine 16 pairs teed off as ever, a great mix of golfing buddies, couples, societies, father and sons, father and daughter combinations took part and enjoyed another great day at the home of par three golf in the UK.

Nigel and Mark, two time losing finalists in the past and plate (second chance) title winners too played wonderfully well all day, eventually defeating 2021 MG Matchplay champions Rob and Matt from Northampton in the final 3&2. We hold a plate competition for the 8 first round defeated pairs to compete in, James and Mike from the NASS GS were the winners of that.

A special mention to Elexis Brown Golf Foundation ambassador Eva-Grace Parsons who played with her dad Stuart, won a round and defied everyone else’s attempts by getting nearest the pin on the 5th. Considering where the flag was placed, we all agreed it was a pretty amazing shot!

We’d like to thank all at Nailcote Hall for their hard work in preparing the Cromwell course in such good condition for us (apart from the pin position on the 5th!) and especially to Liam who looked after a lot of thirsty golfers so well in Charley’s Bar all day long.

Well done to Nigel and Mark for getting their hands on our ‘Shield of Dreams’ at long last. MG Matchplay Masters no 10 will return next year.
