The Rolls-Royce PTF Golf Society, Derby is in its 35th anniversary season and their annual ‘Invitational Trophy’ continues as one of the largest society events organised in the Midlands. 2026’s event on Friday 12th June returned to Burton-on-Trent GC for a fourth consecutive year and was supported by over 40 guests including Midlands Golfer magazine ambassadors Phil, Griff and Batesy.
The weather was kind for the 84 golfers who turned out and considering the heavy rain leading up to the day, the course and greens were in brilliant condition. Along with the excellent catering and welcoming hospitality, it made for another successful event. A great afternoon both on and off the course enjoyed by all at the Derbyshire venue with the clubhouse patio thriving well into the evening.
Point scoring in the ¾ handicap ‘Individual Stableford’ proved difficult on the day for most of the field due to the swirling winds, with only six players managing to break the 30-point barrier. The ‘Divisional’ prize money pots were won evenly between guests and society members alike. Congratulations on the day went to Burton member Ron Davis who was the overall winner with a very respectable 37 points. He became the first ‘guest’ player to lift the trophy since the event started back in 2016.
A couple of PTF Society lads filled the other podium positions, with Steve Gretton finishing runner-up with 36 points after a brilliant back 9 of 21 points. Dale Bird with 34 points was back in 3rd place.
The ‘Nearest the Pin’ prizes were won by Ross Brown (2nd), Michael Coleman (6th), Steve Roebuck (10th) and Mark Perrin (12th). James Gale won nearest the 18th in two shots, Chris Bates (eagle on the Par 4 11th) and Michael Coleman (birdie on 6th) each pocketed a share of the healthy ‘2’s’ prize pot.
Unfortunately, two additional society members joined the honours list on the day as Mark Wester with 11 points, and Lionel Jones, who brought up the rear on six points to claim the Booby Prize, both adding their names to the notorious ‘12 and under Scroll of Shame.’

Thanks were again given to all PTF Society Members and guests for their charity contributions on the day for Prostate Cancer on the ‘Captain’s Putting Challenge,’ which was won by Richard Portman.
