Rolls Royce (PTF) Society in Derby have always been one of our most supportive and busy with content groups too.
Amongst that, organiser Nathan annually composes an end of season review in time for the AGM for the members and sends it our way too. It’s in great detail and we nowhere near have the room to publish in full, so here are the highlights of their 2023 season in Nathan’s words.
Our busy Golfing calendar under Rob ‘Presso’ Preston’s captaincy was due to start at Morley Hayes as ever during the Christmas break of 2022, however for the second season running adverse weather forced the postponement of the ‘Winter Warmer’ event.
Eventually we got the chance to stage it again…
January 2023 – ‘Winter Warmer Trophy’ – At Morley Hayes – won by ‘Long’ Tom Donnachie with 39 points, his third win in this event.
April – ‘The Spring Salver’ Glen Gorse GC – 27 holes in increasingly difficult conditions saw no less than FOUR members enter the ‘Scroll of Shame’ (12 points or less for 18 holes.) Emerging as the winner – Callum Slater on 34 points.
May – ‘The President’s Cup’ Melton Mowbray GC – Another wet 27-hole event unfortunately, yet Kris Herries on his society debut fared the best with 34 points.
June – ‘PTF Invitational Trophy’ – Burton-on-Trent GC – Our season’s highlight – 97 golfers, including 50 guests, it has to be one of the largest 18-hole society gatherings in the region. Nice to get a ‘home’ win, as our own Jason Davis on his PTF debut won the trophy with 37 points in blustery conditions, (pictured.)
July – ‘The Summer Vase’ – Druids Heath GC – ‘Long’ Tom wins for the second time in the season with 40 points.
August – Our annual weekend away, again weather affected with 54 holes reduced to 36 in Cheshire at Carden Park and then at Vicar’s Cross. Ben Horspool won the ‘Friday Fiver’ at CP, then on Sunday at VC Chris Asbury won the ‘Tourist’s Trophy’ with 34 points.
September – ‘The Autumn Cup’ – Uttoxeter GC – At last, a beautiful day for our final monthly of 2023, Callum Slater made it two OOM event wins for the season with 33 points.
Late September we compete annually for the ‘Ronnie Parker Memorial Trophy’ against the golfers of Pastures GC in Derby. A 13 vs 13 matchplay where PTF this year surpassed themselves and managed a tied match.
2023 ROLL OF HONOUR

PTF are back in 2024 at local venues including Trentham Park and Rufford Park and their away weekend is in Llandudno.
A date for the diaries – we had 97 golfers at Burton last June. In 2024 the PTF Invitational is held at the same venue on Friday June 14th. We want to top 100, and Phil and MG will be there with a fourball. If you want to take part, Nathan is ready to hear from you with all the details of our main event.
