New Walsall GC Lady Captain, Estelle Thomas, has certainly started her year with a bang, “Oh no she hasn’t….Oh yes she has,” by appearing as Cinderella in the hugely successful Walsall Golf Club pantomime.
The pantomime, written and directed by ex-lady Captain Val Henwood and starring the Club President, men’s Vice Captain, and other notables, was performed in front of a capacity and very raucous audience for two nights in November.
The club was awash with hisses and boos (the two ugly sisters in particular) and also resounding applause for the performance. In addition the assistance as provided by the catering staff, bar staff and the many others involved in costumes, stage lighting, music, etc. This enabled the club to raise a very pleasing amount of money for Walsall Heart Care (even more so when Prince Charming was sponsored to play golf in the next days competition in full regalia!)
It is Estelle’s hope that in her year of being Lady Captain that both old and new members are encouraged to enjoy the atmosphere at Walsall. She has already organised a ‘Friendly Friday’ where friends, family, neighbours have been invited to make use of the facilities. Then there’s a charity day in June where her two brothers, ex England Rugby internationals Richard and Rupert Moon, will be on hand to assist during the day.
During the Masters weekend in 2024, Estelle, whose middle name happens to be Augusta (true!), has organised a full weekend of fun in order to take advantage of an unusual name! Members have already commented that they are looking forward to the Par 3 course to be designed on Walsall’s front nine holes.
Estelle is looking forward to as good as golf as possible, introducing new ladies to the game of golf, raising money for charity, and enjoying the company of the friendly members of Walsall Golf Club.
Walsall Golf Club wishes her all the very best and will support her in everything she does.
