After not being able to play golf for the vast majority of 2020 so far due to weather and CVOID-19, the SSGS made their return to society fun and competition with an event on home turf – Arscott Golf Club. It was an impressive turnout for the first event of the year with 24 members turning up to play in an individual Strokeplay and Stableford competition.
The Head Pro at Arscott had also laid on a putting competition to kick off the day, with Matt O’Brien and Dave Jones winning the first prizes on offer. A howling wind made for some interesting golf once the rounds got underway, with a number of balls ending up in the pond on the 17th as a result!
All in all, a great day was had by all the society members and the added bonus of being able to enjoy a proper pint in the clubhouse after the round made it all the better. There were also 6 competition winners on the day – Best Gross Score (Jason Cutler), Best Nett Score (SSGS Chairman, Mike Kenyon), Stableford Winner (Dave Jones), 2nd (Harry Burgoyne), 3rd (Darren Boyd) and 4th (Kingsley Brown).
