The Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour needed a venue at short notice following a cancellation at the end of June for one of their regular Order of Merit season events and the European Tour star called on an old boss to solve the problem. During the early days in his career, Robert Rock served a brief period as an assistant to head professional Adam McCandless at Uttoxeter Golf Club in Staffs.
Adam went on to caddy for Robert in over 30 European Tour events including two Open Championships in the early days of his career. When the date of Sunday, July 5th became available, Rock called his old boss and bagman for help and the racecourse bordering club was only too happy to help.
On the day, no less than 94 kids of all ages took to the fairways and although they were challenged strongly by the blustery conditions it was a decision that everyone turned to be very happy with, as RRJGT organizer Natalie Clarke confirmed.
“We only gave them three weeks notice but the club really pulled it out of the bag. The staff and members were so welcoming and helpful, the course was in great condition and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. We hope to return to Uttoxeter again very soon.”
