Many traditional ‘Longest Day’ golfing challenges took place across the Midlands in June/July for a number of important causes and much money was raised by teams of golfers.
Yet probably the most impressive of all took place at Cosby Golf Club on June 21st and was a purely solo challenge.
Coby Cartwright got a little help along his way around, a few supportive spectators + hopefully somebody with an abacus too, because Coby’s challenge was far from the traditional one. The cause was a personal one to himself and the club, in support of fellow Cosby member Davy Scott (pictured left on the bottom image with Coby,) a sufferer of Motor Neurone Disease.
To give it some context, Coby is a seriously talented amateur golfer, one of Leicestershire’s finest, in fact he plays off +4 and is a multiple county event winner. So this seemingly unlikely task was doable for Coby, but it was going to take a lot of golf holes played.
From dusk to dawn he had to record 100 pars or better in the day at Cosby, no matter how many holes it was going to take. At 4.21 am he teed off on his mission, by 10.45 am he’d already reached 45. At 15.50 he played his 100th hole, celebrating with a birdie. At that stage, 70 pars or better, 30 to go.
Incredibly, at 21.19pm, with just a half hour of daylight left, Coby tapped in for his 100th par or better on his 153rd hole of the day and was soaked in champagne from some of the gallery watching. The amazing feat, which attracted good luck and congratulations messages from Billy Foster (Instagram post pictured) and Nick Dougherty saw over £4,000 raised for charity, the majority for Davy, with £1.5K towards this years’ Cosby GC captain’s charities.

Well done Coby and thanks from us too, you didn’t know you were timing this perfectly for this edition of the mag. 100 pars – 100 MG issues, nice bit of synergy there!
