“It’s been an honour and a pleasure to represent Walsall Golf Club as lady Captain 2022-October 2023.”

Stephanie Haynes pictured below gives us the highlights of her calendar year at the helm and details of the tremendous amount raised.

“My chosen charity was St Giles Hospice. This charity is close to the hearts of lots of members at WGC. I wanted to chose a local charity , who help you if you’re living with an incurable illness, caring for someone, or grieving over the death of a loved one.

St Giles are there to help you. 80% of their care is delivered in the community. But they, like other charities rely on the generosity of local people raising money for them.”

“I started my charity ideas in late 2022 with a Calendar Girls style calendar. I had 51 ladies who offered to be in it. I followed this with a pamper evening, and wreath making workshop. All were well supported.

In January I arranged a bring and buy sale, followed by a social evening Beatles night, with an auction of golfing fourballs and sporting memorabilia.”

“We had three pop up boutique sales, name the bear, and a Peaky Blinders evening with a raffle.

I even sold my car spot to another member for weekend use only for £500.00!

In early October the ladies section got together for our special Solheim Cup event which was a huge success. I’ve loved every minute of being Lady Captain but raising this much money for charity has been the icing on the cake.”
