Ranked 2nd in the Worcestershire top 100 golf courses, Moseley Golf Club is 10 minutes from Birmingham City Centre. The parkland course dates back to 1892 and is a fabulous escape from everyday city living.

After the government’s announcement on Monday 23rd March, the club embarked on unprecedented times. The greens team normally consists of 5 staff but were only allowed to carry out essential maintenance following golf England’s guidelines. Andrew Davies (Head Greenkeeper) and Tony Hardy (1st Assistant) were the only 2 members of the greens staff that weren’t furloughed. The sole aim was to keep the course maintained throughout the Lockdown to ensure that when the club reopened we could do so with minimal disruption.

Since Lockdown began the weather has been extraordinary for this time of year and almost felt like mid-summer, which brings its own challenges, but running on just 2 greens staff would mean adapting their day to day tasks in order to prioritise the work to become as efficient and effective as possible exceeding the members’ expectations of the course.

Thanks to Moseley’s resilient members supporting the greens staff and their club, the course was ready to reopen on Wednesday 13th May. Since reopening the feedback has again been absolutely outstanding and appreciative of the hard work from all the greens staff to get the course in excellent condition.

We are delighted that all the greens staff our now back at Moseley none more so than Andy and Tony. Thanks, gents!
