We had a pretty good 2023/24 season and played many courses. We played a total of 21 matches throughout the season.
These included a trip to Antrim (playing Greenacres and Massereene golf clubs) and our captain’s weekend away at Wyboston Lakes – this was an absolutely scorcher of a weekend in September.
We played an incredibly close match with Erin-Go-Bragh GS at Pype Hayes which ended with the STAGS retaining the trophy after a 3-3 result. It literally went down to a last putt miss from EGB – very exciting indeed.
Our finale, as always, was the 4-club challenge at Boldmere which turned out to be the decider for player of the year. Incredibly, a first for us, as both myself and Tom Biddle shared the player of the year (You wouldn’t even believe the shenanigans that occurred for that result to have happened, but that’s golf!!!!)
For 2024 our new captain is Matt Bowen (pictured), and we can’t wait for him to lead us throughout this year. It has been a bit of a non-starter with our first two games cancelled due to the appalling weather that has plagued all of our golfing plans.
We finally teed the Year off with a match at Aston Wood which was won by our ‘COVID’ captain Pete Clark with 41 points.
We return to La Manga this year for the first time since 2019 and I’m sure that you’ll hear about that in due course.
