Play and Stay – At The Nottinghamshire

The No1 Society Venue in The Midlands – As voted by you, the MG readers in our poll, held at the beginning of this year. They wear their banner proudly, you can’t miss it as you drive into the car park. The bad news for their rivals is that The Nottinghamshire G & CC is a club refusing to rest on its laurels. It’s time to vote again now and this venue has an even more compelling case to make in order to retain the title.

Another level – Leamington & County

Leamington and County GC has the experience of over 100 years of golfing tradition combined with a healthy modern attitude to bringing new golfers into the game.

Leamington have undertaken some course developments this year too, a slightly altered layout now exists with a re-route and two changed holes which include a new 18th. A joint editor’s visit was required to check it all out, Mandy and myself chose the hottest day of the year to do it!

Nuneaton GC – In good shape

The fortunes of Nuneaton Golf Club are doing rather nicely of late, a rate of progress to compare favourably with their famous son. Locally born Andy Sullivan played his golf here from picking up a club at the age of ten. He still lives in the area and during his downtime away from the European Tour is often to be found on the fairways of Nuneaton, still playing money games with old mates.

How to combat your self destruct

You are your own worst enemy Golf will beat you up, you don’t need to add to the beating! Sometimes we forget why we play this beautiful game. I frequently see golfers on the course berating themselves for playing a bad a shot. Without realising it, they are actually doing more harm and wrecking any chance […]

Release your caged tiger

. I recently heard a fabulous analogy to describe how we typically train for golf that explains why we find ourselves struggling when playing in competition. 90% of coaching and training is carried out in a controlled environment, such as at a range or putting green. What we haven’t appreciated is that this is setting us to […]

Shirland Golf Club

On the southern edge of Peaks and Dales and hidden away at the head of a picturesque Derbyshire valley this established 18 hole course takes advantage of the breathtaking countryside yet is only a few minutes away from junction 28 of the M1. Shirland’s manicured and easy walking layout combines brilliantly with the areas rugged […]

125 years – The South Staffordshire Club

The South Staffordshire Club is always a special visit. Nestled in the leafy suburbs of Wolverhampton, a traditional members club with a much admired parkland course that never fails to impress. Messrs Vardon, Colt, Braid and more recently Donald Steel have all played their parts in creating a layout that charms, teases and yields a low score very reluctantly.

Zoom – Fits like a glove

With its ‘One Size Fits All’ technology, ZOOM is designed to fit YOUR hand

Buying a glove is a tricky business. Every golfer knows the routine. Under the disapproving glare of the club Pro you un-wrap, force it on, flex your hand and then badly re-pack gloves in an effort to find the one that fits best. A slightly baggy palm, a tiny pinch on the knuckle, unless you’re blessed with a model hand of exact M, M/L, or L proportions your glove will be the best fit you can find, not the perfect fit.

BrainTrain4 – Course Management

Following on from our highly successful golf psychology evening last week at Branston G&CC in Staffs, there was one topic that appears to have resonated with several people. So this week, I’ve decided to dedicate the blog to course management to show how changing your thought process can have a dramatic effect.

‘Disruptive’ G/Fore goes to the top of the class

G/FORE has shown once again it can be relied upon to influence others with its 2017 autumn/winter collection. While other school reports from the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando might have read “must do better”, G/FORE was in the good books with its Disruptive Luxury theme, which encapsulated the brand’s trademark innovative design with a hint of unconventional mischief.

Quattro – From Big Max

When the biggest names want stability and traction they turn to 4-wheel drive. So as BIG MAX sets its sights on tackling golf’s toughest terrain, it’s quite natural that the answer from the innovation leader in push trolley technology is the 4-wheel Blade Quattro.
